Cinco Ranch

Cinco Ranch is a planned community inside Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction, spanning Fort Bend and Harris counties with most of it in Fort Bend. The land was part of Blakely Ranch, a 15,000-acre working cattle ranch that Bassett "Papa" Blakely built up from an inherited Old Three Hundred land grant. In 1937 five Houston oil men bought about 4,880 acres of it as a hunting preserve and named it Cinco Ranch — cinco being Spanish for five. They sold 2,500 acres to the Army Corps of Engineers in 1949 to enlarge Barker Reservoir for Houston flood control. The residential community opened in 1991 around the Cinco Ranch Beach Club, a manmade beach and pool ringed by a lake, and added an 18-hole golf club in 1994. It sits about 25 miles west of downtown Houston and is served by Katy ISD.
