About Jersey Village

Jersey Village is a city in west-central Harris County at U.S. 290, FM 529 and the Southern Pacific Railroad. The name comes from the dairy that was here first: Clark W. Henry ran F&M Dairy and raised Jersey cattle on 1,236 acres, and gave the land up for a residential community in 1953 when his health declined. Henry and LeRoy Kennedy began developing it in February 1954 — five miles of streets plus gas, sewer and water — and the first family moved in that October. The community incorporated on 16 April 1956, with all 58 votes in favour, and adopted a home rule charter in August 1986. Because it incorporated, Houston was never able to bring its territory inside the city limits.
