Memorial

Memorial takes its name from Memorial Drive, the east–west arterial that cuts through it. The City of Houston's Memorial super neighbourhood runs from Buffalo Bayou on the south to Westview on the north, Barker Reservoir on the west and the six Memorial Villages on the east. Before annexation this was large country estates and farmland; Houston took it in gradually between the 1950s and the 1980s. Memorial Bend, first developed in 1955, holds a large collection of mid-century modern and ranch houses from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Terry Hershey Park is named for the conservationist who founded the Bayou Preservation Association to keep this stretch of Buffalo Bayou from being lined with concrete.
